Roselyne Déry-Lafrenière, LL.B.

Originally from Drummondville, Roselyne Déry-Lafrenière graduated in law from Université de Sherbrooke. She completed one semester of studies at Belgium’s Université de Louvain-La-Neuve, where she had the opportunity to explore Europe’s legal system as well as international law.

A member of the Quebec Bar Association since 2011, she began her career with a private firm in Montreal, where she gained experience in several fields of law, namely civil law and commercial law. She then went on to pursue her education at Université de Montréal, where she obtained a diploma of higher specialized studies (DESS or diplôme d’études supérieures) in business law.

Me Déry-Lafrenière joined the Bernier Fournier team in September 2014. Although she focuses most of her practice on property law, corporate law and commercial law, she also occasionally takes on cases in litigation law.

With her personal rigour and entrepreneurial spirit, she knows how to provide her clients with the tools they need to start up a business, undertake a corporate and tax reorganization or set up a business succession plan.

She has represented small and large companies in the negotiation of the purchase or sale of private corporations in a multitude of sectors such as retail trade, manufacturing, real estate, telecommunications and technology. She also handles the due diligence process in collaboration with accountants and tax experts.

As part of her practice, she regularly drafts and negotiates various commercial contracts such as shareholder agreements, letters of intent, offers to purchase, service contracts and commercial leases — while seeing to the compliance of these documents in all material respects.

She accompanies entrepreneurs throughout the steps leading to the completion of their projects, advises them with respect to commercial issues and provides them with support in the more emotional aspects of their efforts. Me Déry-Lafrenière also develops creative and innovative strategies that are adapted to companies’ needs and philosophies.

Roselyne Déry-Lafrenière has also been called on to handle cases involving trademarks. She conducts registrability searches and follows up on files until the trademarks have been registered while participating in the development of strategies to protect the given trademarks both in Canada and abroad.

Since the winter of 2018, in collaboration with the Société de développement économique de Drummondville (SDED), Me Déry-Lafrenière is a faculty member at Cégep de Drummondville where she lectures as part of the continuing education program in business start-up and management which leads to an attestation of collegial studies (ACS).
